The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
