He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (interrupting). 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who regardeth himself self-sufficient 5 To him you give attention. 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 And fruit and grass - 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many a face will be glittering on that day. 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
