The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 those who, when they are to receive their due from [other] people, demand that it be given in full 2 but when they measure or weigh, give less. 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 For a mighty day, 5 a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 It is a written book. 9 Ruin is for the deniers on that day! 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says: 'Fictitious tales of the ancients' 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 By no means! Verily on that Day from their Lord they will be shut out. 15 and then, behold, they shall enter the blazing fire 16 Then shall it be said: This is what you gave the lie to. 17 NAY, VERILY - the record of the truly virtuous is [set down] in a mode most lofty! 18 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! - 19 A Register inscribed. 20 witnessed by those brought nigh. 21 The virtuous will live in bliss, 22 On thrones, looking (at all things). 23 You will find in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 The last of it is musk. So for this let the competitors compete. 26 and whose mixture is Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 Surely they who are guilty used to laugh at those who believe. 29 and winked at one another as they passed them by. 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 and when they saw the believers, they said: “Lo! These are the erring ones”; 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 upon couches gazing. 35 Have the unbelievers been duly rewarded for their deeds? 36
