The Parties (Al-Ahzaab)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ O PROPHET FEAR God and do not follow the unbelievers and the hypocrites. 1 And follow that which is revealed to thee from thy Lord; verily Allah is of that which ye work ever Aware. 2 Trust in God. God is sufficient as guardian. 3 Allah has never put two hearts within one person's body; nor has He made your wives, whom you compare to your mothers' backs (to divorce them), your true mothers; nor has He made those whom you adopt as sons your own sons. These are only words that you utter with your mouths. But Allah proclaims the Truth and directs you to the Right Path. 4 Call them (adopted sons) by (the names of) their fathers, that is more just with Allah. But if you know not their father's (names, call them) your brothers in faith and Mawalikum (your freed slaves). And there is no sin on you if you make a mistake therein, except in regard to what your hearts deliberately intend. And Allah is Ever OftForgiving, Most Merciful. 5 The Prophet has more authority over the believers than themselves. His wives are their mothers. The relatives are closer to each other, according to the Book of God, than the believers and the emigrants. However, you may show kindness to your guardians. This also is written in the Book. 6 And recall what time We took a bond from the prophets and from thee and from Nuh and Ibrahim and Musa and 'Isa son of Maryam. And We took from them a solemn bond; 7 that He might question the truthful concerning their truthfulness; and He has prepared for the unbelievers a painful chastisement. 8
