Ad cried lies to the Envoys 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 125 So keep your duty to Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 and fear Him who has succoured you with what you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: "It is the same to us whether you preach or be not of those who preach. 136 This [religion of ours] is none other than that to which our forebears clung, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
