S (Saad)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Sad. CONSIDER this Qur'an, endowed with all that one ought to remember! 1 But the Unbelievers (are steeped) in self-glory and Separatism. 2 How many generations We have destroyed before them! And they cried out when it was too late to escape. 3 Now they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them; and the unbelievers say, 'This is a lying sorcerer. 4 Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing." 5 A group of the pagans walked out of a meeting with the Prophet and told the others, "Let us walk away. Be steadfast in the worship of your gods. This man wants to dominate you. 6 We have not heard of this in the last religion; this is surely an invention. 7 What! Upon him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed from on high?" Nay, but it is My Own reminder that they distrust! Nay, they have not yet tasted the suffering which I do impose! 8 Do they possess the treasures of the mercy of your, (Muhammad's), Lord, the Majestic and Munificent God? 9 Have they control over heavens and earth and whatever [lies] between them? Then let them climb up to heaven by ropes: 10 But there - will be put to flight even a host of confederates. 11 The folk of Noah before them denied (their messenger) and (so did the tribe of) A'ad, and Pharaoh firmly planted, 12 And [the tribe of] Thamud and the people of Lot and the companions of the thicket. Those are the companies. 13 Of all these there was not one who did not deny the messengers. So My retribution was justified. 14
