The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 But We see it very near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 tearing away his skin! 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 except those that pray, 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 those in whose wealth is a right known 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who protect their private organs (from adultery). 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Such will be the honoured ones in the Gardens (of Bliss). 35
