The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he has not broken through the difficult pass. 11 And what have you understood, what the valley is! 12 (It is) the freeing of a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 To the orphan with claims of relationship, 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.

Notes and Instructions
قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
