The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right hand; 38
