The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 By the day when it appeareth in glory, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in the best [reward], 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And gives the lie to the best,- 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 When he falls (into Hell), his wealth will not help him. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Therefore I have warned you of a Fire blazing fiercely (Hell); 14 None except the most wicked will enter it. 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 He who spends his wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 He verily will be content. 21
