The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 No! [But] indeed, man transgresses 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a worshipper from praying? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 by the lying forelock steeped in sin. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
