۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They answered: "We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said, "You were certainly, you and your fathers, in manifest error." 54 They exclaimed, "Have you brought the Truth or are you joking?" 55 He said: Aye! your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth Who created them, and as to that I am of the witnesses. 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. 58 [When they saw what had happened,] they said: "Who has done this to our gods? Verily, one of the worst wrongdoers is he!" 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 "Did you do this to our gods, O Abraham?" they enquired. 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 (So Abraham) said: "Then why do you worship something apart from God that cannot profit you or do you harm? 66 Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" 67 They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" 68 [But] We said: O fire! Be thou cool, and [a source of] inner peace for Abraham!" 69 They sought to outwit him, but We made them the worst of losers. 70 and We delivered him, and Lot, unto the land that We had blessed for all beings. 71 We granted him Isaac and Jacob as a gift and helped both of them to become righteous people. 72 And We made them Imams who guided (people) by Our command, and We revealed to them the doing of good and the keeping up of prayer and the giving of the alms, and Us (alone) did they serve; 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge, and saved him from a people who acted villainously and were certainly wicked and disobedient. 74 And We caused him to enter into Our mercy; verily he was of the righteous. 75
