And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 He said: See now that which ye worship, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 He created me and He will guide me. 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 “And He will give me death, then resurrect me.” 81 and who, [hope, will forgive me my faults on Judgment Day! 82 "O my Lord! bestow wisdom on me, and join me with the righteous; 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 And humiliate me not on the Day whereon people shall be raised. 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 except for him who comes to God with a pure heart. 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 and Hell shall be revealed to the misguided, 91 and they will be asked: "Where are the gods that you worshipped 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It is none but those steeped in guilt who led us into this error, 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 no loyal friend. 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
