The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 that, lo and behold, is an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
