The Human (Al-Insan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 We created the human being from the union of sperm and egg to test him. We gave him hearing and vision. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 Verily We! We have gotten ready for the infidels chains and collars and a Blaze. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 A spring of which the [righteous] servants of Allah will drink; they will make it gush forth in force [and abundance]. 6 They fulfill vows and fear a day the evil of which shall be spreading far and wide. 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you; 9 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate. 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining there upon couches, they shall see neither the sun nor the moon. 13 The shades of the garden will be closely spread over them and it will be easy for them to reach the fruits. 14 Passed round will be silver flagons and goblets made of glass, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls. 19 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate. 20 they will wear green garments of fine silk and rich brocade. They will be adorned with silver bracelets. And their Lord will give them a pure drink. 21 (And it will be said to them): "Verily, this is a reward for you, and your endeavour has been accepted." 22
