Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And cups put in place 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And at the Sky, how it is raised high?- 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed, upon Us is their account. 26
Almighty God's Truth.
