In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And be patient (O Muhammad SAW) with what they say, and keep away from them in a good way. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 the Day whose severity shall cause the heaven to split asunder? Allah's promise is ever bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
