The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read with the name of your Lord Who created, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 The One Who taught to write with the pen. 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 And yet, but yet man is rebellious, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 a servant when he prays -- 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Have you considered if he gives the lie to the truth and turns (his) back? 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him call on his concourse! 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
