The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked around, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
