He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment, 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what has God created him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 Olives and dates, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
