The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are shattered into [countless] shards, 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And shade extended 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
