The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and the sea swarming, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
