The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 standing poised at the highest point on the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 And was at a distance of two bow lengths or nearer. 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
