He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to a rich man, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and who has fear of God, 9 From him will you divert yourself. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 lofty and pure, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and fodder, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And many will be dust-begrimed, 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
