The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 And the heaven and Him Who built it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 And inspired it [with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 and failed is he who buried it! 10 Thamud belied in their exorbitance. 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 But they rejected his statement as a lie and hamstrung the she-camel. For that crime their Lord rumbled down upon them, utterly razing them to the ground. 14 God is not afraid of the result of what He had decreed. 15
