The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 He used to be happy with his own people; 13 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah). 14 But no; (how would he not revert)? His Lord was ever watching him. 15 I swear by the glow of sunset, 16 or by the night in which things all come together to rest, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 Then what ails them, that they believe not, 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
