We created and shaped you, then told the angels to prostrate themselves before Adam. All the angels obeyed except Satan who did not. 11 [And God] said: "What has kept thee from prostrating thyself when I commanded thee?" Answered [Iblis]: "I am better than he: Thou hast created me out of fire, whereas him Thou hast created out of clay." 12 He (Allah) said: 'Descend from it! This is no place for you to be proud. Begone, you are of the humiliated' 13 Satan replied: 'Give me respite till the Day they shall be raised.' 14 and God replied, "You are granted respite." 15 He said, “Hence I swear by the fact that You sent me astray, I will certainly lay in wait for them on Your Straight Path.” 16 and shall most certainly fall upon them openly as well as in a manner beyond their ken, and from their right and from their left: and most of them Thou wilt find ungrateful." 17 He said, "Get out of here, despised, and rejected! I shall fill Hell with all of those who follow you." 18 And (We said): O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the garden; so eat from where you desire, but do not go near this tree, for then you will be of the unjust. 19 But the Shaitan made an evil suggestion to them that he might make manifest to them what had been hidden from them of their evil inclinations, and he said: Your Lord has not forbidden you this tree except that you may not both become two angels or that you may (not) become of the immortals. 20 And he swore to them both: Most surely I am a sincere adviser to you. 21 So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). And their Lord called out to them (saying): "Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily, Shaitan (Satan) is an open enemy unto you?" 22 They said: Our Lord! We have been unjust to ourselves, and if Thou forgive us not, and have (not) mercy on us, we shall certainly be of the losers. 23 Said He: "Down with you, [and be henceforth] enemies unto one another, having on earth your abode and livelihood for a while: 24 He said: There shall ye live, and there shall ye die, and thence shall ye be brought forth. 25
