The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Book written 2 In parchment spread open 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
