The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he thought; 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
