He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 To him you attend; 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay, (do not do like this), indeed it (these Verses of this Quran) are an admonition, 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 From what has God created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
