The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 And obeys its Lord and it must. 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 and casts forth whatever is in it, and becomes utterly void, 4 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord,- and it must needs (do so);- (then will come Home the full reality). 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But he who is given his Book from behind his back 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 and will enter the Blazing Fire. 12 He lived rejoicing among his people, 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 that you shall surely ride from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 and when the Koran is recited to them they do not bow? ۩ 21 Indeed, those who are bent on denying the truth reject it -- 22 Allah knows best what they are accumulating (in their Record). 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward. 25
