A multitude of those of old 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you: why then do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have ordained death among you and We are not to be overcome, 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 (And say:) "We have fallen into debt; 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
