The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Makkah); 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 and [I call to witness] parent and offspring: 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And showed him two highways (of good and evil)? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
