Thamud denied the messengers 141 When their brother Salih said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 142 I have been sent as a trusted messenger to you. 143 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 144 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds: 145 "Will ye be left secure, in (the enjoyment of) all that ye have here? 146 amidst gardens and fountains, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 150 "And follow not the bidding of those who are extravagant,- 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and mend not (their ways)." 152 They said: You are only of the deluded ones; 153 You are nothing but a man like us. Bring us a token if you speak the truth." 154 He said: "Here is a she-camel: she has a right of watering, and ye have a right of watering, (severally) on a day appointed. 155 “And do not touch her with evil intentions for the punishment of the Great Day will seize you.” 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and in the morning they were remorseful, 157 So the torment took hold of them: verily herein is a sign, but most of them are not believers. 158 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 159
