By the moon, 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 The morning when it is unveiled, 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning to mortals, 36 Whoever of you desires to progress or lag behind. 37 Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 In gardens they will ask one another 40 concerning the sinners, 41 “What drove you to Hell?” 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Aye! every one of them desireth that: he should be vouchsafed scrolls expanded. 52 By no means! Aye, they fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
