The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 created man out of a germ-cell 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, but verily man is rebellious 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents, 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 and We too will call the stern and angry keepers of hell. 18 Beware! Do not obey him, but bow in adoration and draw near (to your Lord). ۩ 19
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
