Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has the news of the overwhelming event reached you? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 The while they enter the Blazing Fire,- 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 Neither nourishing nor banishing hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 Countless springs will flow therein, 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 and goblets set forth 14 And cushions lined up 15 And carpets ready spread, 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 and on the sky, how it is raised aloft, 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 (Muhammad), preach; you are only a preacher. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
