The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its rising brightness 1 And the moon when it follows the sun, 2 and by the day as it reveals its glory 3 by the night when it covers the earth with darkness, 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 and by the earth and That which extended it! 6 And a soul and Him Who perfected it 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 Surely blissful is he who hath cleansed it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 In their presumptuous insolence the Thamud called the Truth a lie 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 Then Allah's Messenger warned them: “Hands off the she-camel and her drink!” 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
