۞ We gave Abraham aforetime his rectitude -- for We knew him -- 51 When he said to his father and his people, "What are these statues to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, “We found our forefathers worshipping them.” 53 He said: "Indeed you and your fathers have been in manifest error." 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He said, “In fact, your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the One Who created them; and I am of those who testify to it.” 56 "And by Allah, I shall plot a plan (to destroy) your idols after you have gone away and turned your backs." 57 And then he broke those [idols] to pieces, [all] save the biggest of them, so that they might [be able to] turn to it. 58 They said, “Who has done this to our Gods? He is indeed cruel!” 59 They said: We heard a youth make mention of them, who is called Abraham. 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: Is it thou who hast done this to our gods, O Abraham? 62 He said: rather he hath wrought it, this big one of them; so question them, if they ever speak. 63 So they returned one to another saying, 'Surely, it is you who are the harmdoers' 64 Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" 65 He said, “What! You worship, instead of Allah, one that neither benefits you nor harms you?” 66 Fie on you and on what you serve besides Allah; what! do you not then understand? 67 They said, "Burn him to ashes if you want to help your gods". 68 We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" 69 They desired to outwit him; so We made them the worse losers, 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We bestowed on him Isaac, and Jacob as an additional gift, and made them righteous. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 And unto Lot we gave judgment and knowledge, and We delivered him from the community that did abominations. Lo! they were folk of evil, lewd. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
