The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 And a few of later ages, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining face to face. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And shade extended 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 Then We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
