The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
