Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 on that night every wise decree is specified 4 by Our own command -- We have been sending messages, 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So watch for the Day when the sky will come down with a pall of smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful torment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the slaves of Allah (i.e. the Children of Israel). Verily! I am to you a Messenger worthy of all trust, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And the cornlands and the goodly sites 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus it was; and We passed them on to another people. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
