The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Bountiful One 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 Has taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 Because he considers himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 What thinkest thou? He who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Hast thou considered whether he is on the right way, 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Did he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
