The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 Indeed your efforts differ. 4 As for him who gives and is godfearing 5 and believes in the truth of what is right, 6 We will ease him toward ease. 7 As for him who was a miser and behaved with aversion (to Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 And his substance will avail him not when he perisheth. 11 Surely upon Us rests the guidance, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
