Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 for, behold, heavy fetters [await them] with Us, and a blazing fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
