The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
