The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 Arise and warn! 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments purify! 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons standing before him, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
