He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and in awe of God 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 so let those who want to follow its guidance do so. 12 in [the light of His] revelations blest with dignity, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 And produce therein corn, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Veiled in darkness, 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
