The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
When the sun shall be wound round, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 the mountains are scattered about as dust, 3 And when the she-camels big with young shall be abandoned, 4 when the savage beasts shall be brought together, 5 And when the seas are set on fire, 6 And when the souls shall be joined with their bodies; 7 And when the female (infant) buried alive (as the pagan Arabs used to do) shall be questioned. 8 for what crime she was slain, 9 When the ledgers are laid open, 10 when the sky is unveiled, 11 hell is made to blaze, 12 when Paradise is brought close: 13 then every soul will discover the consequence of its deeds. 14 So I swear by the retreating stars - 15 orbiting, disappearing; 16 And by the night as it closes in 17 The rising dawn, 18 that the Quran is the word of the honorable angelic, mighty Messenger 19 Endued with Power, with rank before the Lord of the Throne, 20 who is obeyed there and is worthy of trust. 21 And your comrade is not mad. 22 in truth he saw him (Gabriel) on the clear horizon, 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of a satan accursed. 25 Where then are you going? 26 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation, 27 to every one of you who wishes to tread the straight path. 28 But you cannot will it unless God, the Sustainer of all the worlds, wills [to show you that way]. 29
