۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 Instead of Allah, and lead them to the path to hell; 23 “And stop them they are to be questioned.” 24 What aileth you that ye help not one another? 25 Nay! on that Day they will be entirely submissive. 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 Some [of them] will say: "Behold, you were wont to approach us [deceptively] from the right!" 28 They will answer, “You yourselves did not have faith!” 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 "So now has been proved true, against us, the word of our Lord that we shall indeed (have to) taste (the punishment of our sins). 31 For we had led you astray. In fact we ourselves were astray." 32 So, they will become partners in punishment. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 For when it was said to them: 'There is no god except Allah' they were always proud 35 And say: "What! shall we give up our gods for the sake of a Poet possessed?" 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 Verily ye are going to taste a torment afflictive. 38 And you shall not be rewarded except (for) what you did. 39 Not so, however, God's true servants: 40 Whose provision is predetermined -- 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 Facing one another on thrones, 44 A drink will be passed round among them from a flowing spring: 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them are those of modest gaze, with lovely eyes, 48 as if they were hidden pearls. 49 Then some of them will turn to others, and will ask each other. 50 A speaker from among them shall say: Surely I had a comrade of mine, 51 "Who used to say, 'what! art thou amongst those who bear witness to the Truth (of the Message)? 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 He said: 'Will you look down?' 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He said, “By Allah, you had nearly ruined me!” 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 “So are we never to die?” (The people of Paradise will ask the angels, with delight, after the announcement of everlasting life.) 58 Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?" 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is this better or the tree of Zaqqum 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 So indeed they will eat from it, and fill their bellies with it. 66 then in addition to it they shall have a draught of boiling water to drink; 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 Indeed they found their fathers astray. 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And certainly most of the ancients went astray before them, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 and behold, how was the end of them that were warned, 73 EXCEPT for God's true servants, [most people are apt to go astray.] 74
